A policeman was killed and 12 others have been injured after a swing collapsed on the Surajkund Worldwide Crafts Mela in Faridabad on Saturday night. The deceased has been recognized as Inspector Jagdish Prasad. Officers stated he had rushed for the rescue efforts after the swing collapsed when part of it crushed him.
The Inspector and others who injured have been rushed to the Badshah Khan Civil Hospital for remedy, stated police, including that he succumbed to his accidents later.
“A complete of 13 folks have been injured within the unlucky incident, out of which one has died. It’s unlucky. We are going to take strict motion in opposition to the seller involved,” stated Deputy Commissioner Ayush Singh.

A Faridabad police spokesperson added, “The Inspector was from Palwal and was on responsibility on the Mela. The swing had fallen on one aspect and he was close to the opposite aspect, making an attempt to rescue folks when he obtained critically injured. He was declared lifeless on the hospital.” Earlier within the day, a gate close to the Meals Courtroom had fallen on account of sturdy winds, as per attendees.
The Surajkund Worldwide Crafts Mela is held yearly in February at Surajkund in Faridabad. Organised by the Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Tradition, and Exterior Affairs, it has been working since 1987 and is broadly considered one of many largest crafts gala’s on the planet.
It serves as a significant platform to showcase and protect India’s wealthy variety of handicrafts, handlooms, folks arts, conventional work, metalwork, pottery, woodcraft, and regional cuisines, in response to the organisers.
The Mela started on January 31 this 12 months and can proceed until February 15. This 12 months’s theme is “Native to International – Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
