George Dockrell Smashes 5 Sixes in 9 Balls, Nearly Matches Yuvraj Singh’s Record

The 22nd match of the T20 World Cup 2026 is being played between Ireland and Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Due to the explosive batting of the all-rounder from Ireland, George Dockrell, the target of 236 runs has been set for Oman. This is the second-highest target given to an opponent in the T20 World Cup.

Dockrell scored a blistering innings, scoring an unbeaten 35 off nine balls, which included five sixes. His strike rate was 388.89. He could have achieved the record of the fastest half-century in T20 international cricket by Indian explosive batsman Yuvraj Singh if he got one more over. Yuvraj scored a half-century off 12 balls against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Oman won the toss and elected to bowl. Batting first, Ireland had a poor start. They lost both openers, Tim Tector and Ross Adair, by the score of 25. Harry Tector’s third wicket fell at 45, and Curtis Campher’s fourth at 64. At this point, Ireland appeared to be in trouble.

Captain Lorcan Tucker and Gareth Delany then strengthened the team with a 101-run partnership for the fifth wicket, taking the team to 165. Delany was dismissed for 56 off 30 balls, including four sixes and three fours. Following Delany’s dismissal, Lorcan Tucker shared a 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket with George Dockrell off 19 balls. Tucker didn’t get a chance to bat in the final over, thus missing out on a century. Tucker remained unbeaten on 94 off 51 balls, including four sixes and 10 fours.

Ireland scored 235 for 5. This is Ireland’s highest total in T20 cricket. It is also the highest score in an innings in the T20 World Cup. Ireland is awaiting its first win in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Perhaps this match will end their wait.
