AI-native Lightouch Consulting aims to challenge traditional industry model

AI-native Lightouch Consulting aims to challenge traditional industry model

The UK consulting market has seen the launch of Lightouch Consulting, a new management consultancy positioning itself as a GenAI-native alternative to traditional advisory firms. The launch reflects a broader trend towards smaller, specialist consultancies built around AI-enabled delivery, flexible talent models and outcome-focused engagements.

UK consulting revenues have continued to grow in recent years, driven by demand for digital transformation, cloud migration and data modernisation. However, many buyers report frustration with traditional consulting approaches, citing long lead times, junior-heavy delivery teams and escalating fees.

At the same time, generative AI tools are reshaping how consulting work is delivered. A growing number of challenger firms assert that tasks that once required large teams (such as analysis, documentation, solution design and reporting) can now be accelerated or partially automated.

Lightouch Consulting is the latest firm which has launched to address this shift, building its operating model around AI-enabled delivery from day one rather than retrofitting tools onto legacy processes.

    GenAI-native by design

Unlike conventional firms that treat AI as a capability or service line, Lightouch describes itself as “GenAI-native”, embedding AI across its delivery model, methodologies and internal operations.

According to the firm, this allows it to deliver consulting engagements faster and with smaller teams, while maintaining senior-level involvement throughout. Engagements are designed to focus on outcomes rather than billable days, with AI used to accelerate analysis, scenario modelling and client deliverables.

The firm’s target clients are mid-to-large organisations undergoing complex technology change, particularly where speed, clarity and executive decision-making are critical.

Lightouch also adopts a network-based consulting model, drawing on a curated pool of independent senior consultants rather than maintaining a large permanent workforce. This approach mirrors a wider industry shift towards more flexible resourcing, as experienced consultants seek autonomy and clients demand access to specialist expertise on demand.

By combining this talent model with AI-enabled delivery, the firm aims to compete with larger consultancies on capability while operating with significantly lower overheads.

    Positioning against traditional firms

The launch comes at a time when established consultancies are under pressure to demonstrate value amid rising costs and client scrutiny. Procurement teams are increasingly challenging rate cards, while CIOs are looking for partners who can move quickly from strategy to execution.

Lightouch positions itself as a challenger to traditional consulting economics, arguing that AI allows firms to deliver the same—or better—outcomes with fewer people and shorter timelines. The firm’s proposition centres on senior-led delivery, reduced dependency on large teams, and a focus on practical execution rather than extended advisory phases.

While it remains to be seen how quickly GenAI-native consultancies will scale, the launch of Lightouch Consulting highlights a clear direction of travel for the industry. As AI continues to reshape professional services, new entrants are emerging that question long-standing assumptions about how consulting work should be priced, staffed and delivered.

For established firms, the challenge will be whether they can adapt their operating models fast enough—or whether the next wave of growth will come from challengers built for the AI era from the outset.
