Valve has warned it might soon be difficult to purchase the Steam Deck OLED in some regions as a result of memory and storage shortages.
The company has added the following note to the Steam Deck page on the Steam Store to warn prospective buyers:
“Steam Deck OLED may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages. Steam Deck LCD 256GB is no longer in production, and once sold out will no longer be available.”
This is the second time Valve has indicated hardware availability might be impacted by a RAM crisis that is being driven by widespread investment in AI datacenters (thanks, Reuters).
Earlier this month, the company delayed announcing Steam Machine pricing and shipping details as a result of critical component shortages and price hikes. Valve said the situation forced it to “revisit” its shipping schedule and pricing strategy—especially with regards to Steam Machine and Steam Frame hardware.
Other companies such as Sony and Nintendo could also be impacted.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Sony might delay the next PlayStation until 2028 or 2029 to avoid launching new hardware amid a component shortage. Nintendo, meanwhile, could increase the cost of the Switch 2 next year if the market fails to stabilize.
