The next Summer Olympics may be two years away, but that isn’t stopping Mookie Betts from making his desires known.
With the 2028 games set to take place in Los Angeles, the Dodgers star told reporters he would “absolutely” like to take part as a member of Team USA’s baseball team.
Betts previously represented the red, white and blue in 2023, when the Americans finished second at the World Baseball Classic. He hit .313 with one RBI through the event, and despite falling short against Team Japan in the final, Betts described it as “the best baseball experience.”
The eight-time all-star was hoping to take part in the 2026 edition of the international tournament, but was unable to commit as the tournament schedule — running from March 5-17 — overlaps with the anticipated birth of his third child.
“I would’ve done the WBC if it wasn’t for the timing of having a child,” Betts told reporters during Spring Training. ” … But yeah, if I get the opportunity to play in the Olympics, absolutely.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts echoed those sentiments, saying he’d be interested in taking part as well.
As for Betts, the 33-year-old is coming off a third title-winning season with the Dodgers, and his fourth overall.
The star infielder posted a .258/.326/.406 slash line last season with 20 home runs, 82 RBIs and eight stolen bases through 150 regular-season appearances. Betts also chipped in 16 hits for four runs and eight RBI in the post-season.
