A Birmingham pressings built in 1860 is being given a new lease of life, with the help of a Midlands construction consultancy. The Construction Consultancy is working to help deliver the project in 2026.
Birmingham-based The Construction Consultants (TCC) is a multi-disciplined consultancy providing specialist project management, quantity-surveying, employers agent, building surveying and health and safety services to a wide range of sectors. Headquartered in Bennett’s Hill, the firm boasts experience across public and private sectors including industrial, commercial, retail, leisure, care and residential projects.
TCC has been involved since the initial project planning stage, which aims to rescue the Grade II-listed Derwent Works pressings and stampings building in Constitution Hill from disrepair. The factory was built in the late 19th century by Taylor & Challen, a company famous worldwide for producing a wide range of pressings from coins to industrial machinery; but the company moved out of the building in the 1970s.
The building in the Jewellery Quarter is now set to have a new life as apartments and retail units. The project is due for completion later this year, and includes 32 luxury apartments with four ground floor retail units – along with rooftop extensions and a new energy efficient roofing system to protect against extreme weather.
TCC’s team has served as project managers, quantity surveyors and employers agents to oversee the £5 million heritage project on behalf of developers, ETME Group.
Speaking on the project, TCC co-founder and director Sandeep Sunner said, “We are delighted to have been appointed to this important heritage project to breathe new life into a previously neglected listed building. The project is in a tightly confined urban space and requires a high degree of coordination and teamwork.”
