DSP (traffic) Niraj Kumar said, “The administration is taking steps to install hi-tech cameras on highways and city roads to track down offenders.” In the last six months, over 12 deaths took place on city roads or highways each month, involving helmetless bikers.Oindrila Datta, a teacher, said, “Under-age driving must be dealt with an iron hand. These bikers, most of whom don’t wear helmets risk not only their own lives but also those of others on roads. Police must also punish those parents who give bikes to boys and girls.”Former IGP Anil Gupta said, “Police should intensify vigil over rash, stunt biking on city roads and highways. Those who follow safety rules also become victims of those who break rules. Police should penalise those bikers and pillion riders not wearing helmets.”
