The Timberwolves star addressed a viral video from all-star weekend after Friday’s victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
Edwards was caught in an Instagram video following the All-Star Game, telling Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson, “I can’t wait to come home.”
The Atlanta-native proceeded to praise the Hawks’ roster and recent acquisition of Jonathan Kuminga.
Fans took that conversation to mean Edwards plans on eventually taking his talents to his hometown team. However, Edwards made it clear there was nothing of importance to the interaction.
“I don’t think there’s nothing to clear up,” Edwards said, per Timberwolves beat reporter Dane Moore. “It wasn’t too much, just a conversation. I been knowing Jalen Johnson for a long time. That’s my dog. We was just having a conversation. It’s really nothing to clear up. I’m happy where I’m at.”
Edwards dropped 40 points against the Mavericks on Friday, coming off winning the All-Star Game MVP award.
The 24-year-old is averaging a career-high 29.5 points while adding 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists through 47 games. He has guided the Timberwolves to a 34-22 record this season and made it clear the franchise is very important to him.
“They embraced me, a lot of people didn’t think I was worthy of the number one pick, and they did, I think that’s the main thing,” Edwards said, per Zone Coverage’s Andrew Dukowitz.
