CHENNAI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadres at a meeting in Chennai on Sunday passed a resolution urging party president Vijay to contest the 2026 Assembly elections from the Perambur constituency. Addressing the meeting, TVK election campaign management secretary Aadhav Arjuna moved the resolution. Party general secretary N Anand later said the leadership would be informed of the cadres’ request. “We wholeheartedly accept the resolution moved by Aadhav and will convey your wish to Thalapathy,” he said. Aadhav said the party leadership believed in contesting from areas facing higher poverty and greater public need, adding that North Chennai reflected those conditions. He said the leader’s preference was to contest from a North Chennai constituency such as Perambur, Kolathur, or RK Nagar. He added that Vijay’s decision to enter the North Chennai political arena first was prompted by incidents in which TVK functionaries campaigning peacefully in the Harbour constituency were manhandled. Referring to the DMK’s claim that Chennai was its political stronghold, Aadhav said TVK was deliberately beginning its campaign in the city. “From now on, Chennai belongs to TVK,” he said, adding that while DMK leader Sekar Babu represented North Chennai, “his godfather V S Babu is here with us.”
