United States Department of Agriculture has announced a major recall of a frozen meal sold at Trader Joe’s after reports that the product may contain pieces of glass.

The recall affects about 3.4 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice made by Ajinomoto Foods North America.

The company, based in Portland, Oregon, produced the meals between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025.

The items were shipped to Trader Joe’s stores across the United States and to retailers in Canada.

According to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the frozen meals “may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass.”

The issue came to light after four customers reported finding glass pieces in the product. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The recalled Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice comes in 20-ounce plastic bags and includes stir-fried rice, vegetables, chicken, and eggs, CBS News reported.

The affected packages have best-by dates ranging from September 8 through November 17, 2026.

They are marked with the establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA inspection seal.

USDA Warns: Do Not Eat Recalled Chicken Fried Rice

Ajinomoto is also recalling products sold in Canada. These include cardboard packages labeled “Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice,” AP News reported

Each box contains six bags of frozen chicken fried rice and carries best-by dates from September 9 through November 12, 2026.

The USDA advises consumers who purchased the recalled products not to eat them. Instead, customers should throw the food away or return it to the store where it was bought.

Officials stress that even though no one has been hurt, eating food that may contain glass can cause serious injury.

Food recalls like this are taken very seriously because even a small piece of glass can be dangerous.

The recall is labeled as “not ready-to-eat,” meaning the product must be cooked before eating. However, cooking does not remove the risk if glass is present.

Shoppers who have the frozen chicken fried rice in their freezer should check the package carefully for the best-by date and establishment number. If it matches the recalled information, it should not be consumed.
