Puttur’s time siren to ring again after 20-year pause | Mangaluru News – The Times of India

Mangaluru: The time siren in Puttur, established in 1971 and inactive for over 20 years, has been revived and will begin sounding daily from Monday, said MLA Ashok Kumar Rai.The siren, which earlier alerted residents to specific times of the day, had fallen silent after advocates objected when court proceedings were held nearby. Rai said the decision to restart it was taken after consultations with local residents, including traders and community members, and after the court building was shifted from its earlier premises.“The siren was once a tradition in Puttur, helping people keep track of time. We undertook necessary repair work to restore the equipment and also beautified the pillar, built in traditional architectural style, by repainting it. It will be functional from Monday,” he said.The 15-second siren will sound three times a day — at 8am, 1pm and 7pm — to alert residents across Puttur city.The inauguration of the restored siren will be held on Monday. Rai said the timings were finalised based on public feedback to ensure minimal disruption.
