Nexon has appointed Patrick Söderlund, CEO and co-founder of Arc Raiders developer Embark Studios, as executive chairman.Â
The news comes with Arc Raiders topping 14 million sales worldwide in a matter of months—a performance that Nexon (which published the extraction shooter) said solidified its status as a “blockbuster” franchise.Â
During a recent interview with Game File, Nexon president and CEO Junghun Lee explained Arc Raiders delivered “double the amount of success” he originally anticipated.Â
In his newly-created role, Söderlund will collaborate with Lee and the wider executive leadership team to shape Nexon’s creative and strategic direction. Notably, he will remain CEO of Embark Studios.Â
“Nexon has all the assets to unleash dramatic growth—incredibly talented people, iconic franchises, large and committed player communities, and best-in-class live service capabilities,” said Söderlund in a press release.Â
“This is an enormous opportunity, but one that will require deep focus and discipline. Junghun and I are aligned on what needs to happen and I’m ready to get to work.”
Prior to founding Embark, Söderlund served as EVP of worldwide studios at EA and CEO of Battlefield developer DICE (known as Digital Illusions before it was acquired by EA in 2006). Lee said that experience will be vital in transforming Nexon.Â
“Patrick and I are fully aligned on transforming Nexon,” said Lee. “He’s built studios, attracted the industry’s best people to work with him, and shipped massive global hits. That’s exactly what Nexon needs right now.”Â
Söderlund and Lee will share their joint vision during a Capital Markets Briefing on March 31, 2026.
