Pershing Square (LSE:PSH) is a FTSE 100 investment trust that’s invested in a small handful of S&P 500 stocks. In theory, this makes it more riskier than your average fund. In practice though, manager Bill Ackman has driven exceptional gains through this high-conviction strategy. Last year, Pershing Square delivered a total shareholder return of 33.9%. That was significantly higher than both the S&P 500 (17.9%) and FTSE 100 (25.7%). And since Ackman restructured the fund, the eight-year annualised return has been 23% versus the S&P 500’s 14.3%. The Pershing Square share price is up nearly 300% since IPO in 2017.…

It’s almost a year since I ejected Unilever (LSE: ULVR) from my Self-Invested Personal Pension, and I can’t say I’ve missed it. I’ve just noticed that its shares go ex-dividend on Thursday (26 February). Any investor considering the FTSE 100 stock might be tempted to buy before then, to secure the next payout. So is it worth buying today? On 12 February, Unilever declared a quarterly interim dividend of 46.64 euro cents (40.52p) per share. Anyone buying before the ex-dividend date will get that on 10 April. This isn’t the most dazzling income stock on the FTSE 100. The current…

Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for freeYour guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business and the worldWith US President Donald Trump ever more eager to push the limits of the powers of his office, the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision to rule illegal the bulk of his totemic tariff agenda is a reassuring demonstration of enduring checks and balances in American democracy. Does earning a second income necessarily involve working more? Definitely not! In fact, many people earn a second income by building up a portfolio of shares that pay them dividends. Doing that does not require an initial lump sum of money. It is possible to start from scratch, by putting aside a certain amount of money each month to invest in shares. How much will vary, depending on a person’s individual financial circumstances. In fact, that sort of flexibility is one of the things I like about buying dividend shares as a way to try and earn a second income.…

Sales of new U.S. single-family homes fell in December, but builders made progress in reducing an inventory bloat, potentially allowing them to break ground on more new housing projects. The United States’ tariff regime on India has undergone sharp shifts over the past year, ultimately settling — for now — at a temporary 10% across-the-board import duty. According to Ajay Srivastava, Founder of the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI), the average effective tariff on Indian exports now works out to roughly 13.4%. In a February 21, 2026, note, Srivastava explained that the US Supreme Court’s February 20 ruling striking down reciprocal tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) fundamentally reset the tariff structure and altered the India–US trade equation. How tariffs escalated — and then reset…
