Having disintegrated into anarchy following the revolution ignited by the 2011 Arab Spring and fueled by Western powers’ backing, Libya has struggled to emerge from the abyss. Today, the country remains politically polarized, with fragile stability. Libya’s $2.7 billion investment to expand its main container port, Misurata, is one major indication of the economic transformation efforts anchored on diversification to end oil and gas dependence. The project is being implemented through a public private partnership (PPP) involving Doha-based international infrastructure investor…

London-based specialty insurer Beazley continues to snub Switzerland’s Zurich Insurance, with Beazley insisting it remains confident of its “standalone prospects” and the “attractiveness” of its business model. However, Zurich’s latest offer of £7.67 billion (about $10.6 billion) was lower than a previously undisclosed bid of £13.15 per share extended last June, which Beazley also turned down. At that price, the deal would have valued Beazley’s equity at about £8.4 billion. The UK insurer said last month that it had received three proposals from Zurich in one month and engaged “appropriately.” Zurich argues that the deal would create a global leader…

Nvidia alone boasted a market cap, as of January 2, exceeding the GDP of every country in the world save the US and China. But the collection of marquee names powering the AI industry is comparatively small, and the word frequently attached to their relationships—much to the annoyance of their CEOs—is “circular.” Investors and analysts are asking questions about the latticework of supply-chain commitments these highflying companies…

For both buyers and sellers of companies, timing the deal is a key success criterion for its success. Rhiannon Ludlow, director at TH Global Capital, outlines why that timing should be centred around the business – and not the market. Across global technology M&A cycles, boards and founders often fall back on the same line, they’ll consider a transaction once “the market improves.” It sounds sensible on the surface, but in practice it usually misses the point. Recent data shows that this mindset blurs an important distinction – between waiting to time the market and choosing the right moment for…
