Baker Tilly International has named its new global head of tax. Ian Halligan brings more than three decades of professional services experience to the role.
Halligan commented, “I’m pleased to be taking on this role at an exciting time for both the Baker Tilly network and the tax profession internationally. Together with our tax teams around the world, I look forward to working with our clients to solve their taxation challenges and opportunities.”
Baker Tilly International is a consulting and public accounting firm, headquartered in London. With member firms spread across 700 offices, and 145 territories. This makes its combined network the ninth largest professional services network in the world. Having grown its accounting and advisory network, it enjoyed fees of $6.8 billion for the year ending 31 December 2025.
Having commenced his professional services career in 1989 with BDO in the UK, Halligan also worked with Big Four firm EY, before moving to the US in 2001. Joining BDO USA as an international tax consultant, he later specialised in expatriate tax advice as a principal at RSM, and Grant Thornton.
Halligan arrived at Baker Tilly US in 2009, and became the firm leader for the wider network’s international tax services practice. Now based in Washington DC, Halligan will work with tax professionals across the network. This includes leading and executing the global tax strategy while delivering tax-related business development, knowledge sharing and learning initiatives.
Francesca Lagerberg, CEO of Baker Tilly International, added, “I’m delighted to welcome Ian to this role. Having a strong and aligned global tax capability is essential to driving our network’s efforts forward. Ian’s expertise in international tax combined with his knowledge of the network, means he’s well placed to execute our global tax strategy effectively.”
Halligan steps into the shoes of Chris Johnson. He held the role of head of tax for the last three years at Baker Tilly International, and Lagerberg added she would like to thank Halligan’s predecessor for “his dedicated leadership and hard work” over that period.
