12 Tips for International Students Studying in Australia – Tutors Field Blog
    • Since you have gone abroad, manage yourself well. Attend classes properly when it is time to attend, complete assignments seriously, and prepare well when it is time to prepare for exams.
    • You can have fun. Australian schools have plenty of school holidays for you to travel, including summer and winter breaks, one-to-two-week mid-term breaks, and some public holidays.
    • Once you fail a course, you may need to retake the course the following semester. Therefore, do not neglect your studies for the sake of fun. Studying abroad is expensive, since you have the opportunity, you must cherish it!
    • Take academic integrity seriously. If academic integrity is breached, you may be expelled.
    • Academic misconduct includes but is not limited to ghostwriting, proxy exams, cheating, plagiarism, and using prohibited AI tools.
    • Although class hours in Australia may seem short, there is a lot to do after class. Australian teachers generally recommend students study 8–9 hours per week for each course, excluding lecture and tutorial time.
    • When looking for group assignment teammates, try to find someone who are trustworthy, because bad teammates can truly make your blood pressure skyrocket! If you really cannot find a good teammate, actively look in the course group chats, and the earlier you find teammates, the higher the reliability. Do not wait for the teacher to assign randomly, because self-selected teammates are often more reliable than assigned ones.
    • Do not forget to pay attention to work and internship matters, especially in the final year of a master’s program and the last two years of an undergraduate program. Most companies prefer applicants with experience, both domestically and abroad. Moreover, society is becoming increasingly competitive, those without experience will only have less advantage. If you cannot find opportunities yourself, you can try getting internal referrals, since many good companies’ internship positions are not publicly advertised. Of course, if you have already arranged your post-graduation plans, this point can be ignored.
    • At the end of the semester, you must go early to the library to grab a seat, because during that period the number of people far exceeds your imagination; it is not uncommon for people to stay in the library all day!
    • Closed-book final exams have simple questions, open-book exams are often very difficult.
    • Do not leave all assignments until the last week. By that time, major assignment deadlines for several courses will fall within the same period. Be sure to plan when to do what, leaving everything to the final week will truly exhaust you!
    • Learn to write and read emails. Any important matters from the school will be communicated to students via email.
