Kate Middleton’s Role Pacifying Prince William When He Got ‘Riled Up’

A new book explores how Kate became a pillar of support for her husband during a turbulent period.

In “William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era — The Inside Story,” set for release on March 10, author Russell Myers traces the journey of Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales, from their university days in Scotland to their present roles at the heart of the royal family.

The book delves into the strain placed on their marriage following Prince Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties in 2020, a move that reshaped family dynamics and intensified public scrutiny.

According to Myers, the years that followed only compounded the pressure. The passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 marked a profound turning point for the monarchy, while the ongoing divide with Harry and Meghan Markle continued to cast a shadow over family relations.

Despite the turbulence, Myers suggests that William and Kate’s partnership has remained grounded in open communication and mutual support.

Speaking to People Magazine, he describes them as “great communicators,” adding that they “talk about their emotions, they support one another, and that resilience — often unseen — is central to who they are.”

Tensions escalated after Harry and Meghan publicly discussed their grievances during their 2021 television interview and later with Harry’s 2023 memoir, “Spare,” which contained pointed reflections on his relationship with his brother and life within the institution.

Sources cited in the book describe William as deeply hurt and angered by the revelations. At one stage, he reportedly felt so betrayed that he considered cutting off communication entirely.

Close aides observed that the experience left him disappointed but also resolute, determined to concentrate on his immediate family and his responsibilities rather than revisiting conflict.

In the upcoming book, Kate is portrayed as a calming influence. One source notes that she approached the situation involving Harry with patience, often reminding her husband whenever he got “riled up” that difficult moments eventually pass.

When emotions ran high, she reportedly redirected the focus back to their priorities: their home life and their shared mission within the monarchy.

Nearly 15 years after their wedding at Westminster Abbey, the couple’s relationship is described as defined by composure and endurance.

As parents to Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales, the royal couple is said to “believe that having a strong, stable environment at home gives them the best chance of succeeding in what can be an incredibly challenging institution.”

Myers’ book also suggests that Kate “had less interest than her husband in trying to persuade Harry to stay in his current role.”

The author writes that she had long suspected his exit was “inevitable,” viewing it not as a sudden rupture but as a development that seemed destined to unfold over time.

But, unlike Kate, William was described as being “intensely saddened at his brother’s decision to quit.”

The brothers had already drifted apart over time; however, the Duke of Sussex’s decision to ditch his senior royal position and move abroad was the nail in the coffin for his relationship with William.

According to Myers, “fond memories of their childhood, from helping each other through the tragedy of their mother’s death, to growing up in the public eye, were now tarnished by the division at the heart of the family.”
