Timberline Studio has confirmed that its cozy culinary adventure, Beastro, is serving up an updated playable demo during Steam Next Fest, available now.
Whether returning to the kitchens of Palo Pori or stepping in for the first time, players can sample Beastro’s unique blend of cooking, farming, and deckbuilding combat, a flavorful mix that turns every meal into a strategic tool.
Meet the Caretakers of Taste
The latest demo introduces players to several Caretakers, each embodying a different flavor profile that shapes combat strategies and character relationships.
Oyshi, the Umami Caretaker, is a gentle and comforting presence with a natural affinity for animals and people alike. His name draws inspiration from classic umami ingredients like oyster and shiitake mushrooms, as well as oishii, the Japanese word for “delicious.”
Kalan, the Bitter Caretaker, is far more of an acquired taste. First encountered alone in the wilds, he resists help and fiercely guards his independence. Winning him over takes patience, but discovering his favorite dish becomes a pivotal moment proof that even the most guarded hearts can be softened by the right meal.
Cooking as Combat
In Beastro, every dish prepared becomes a card in a flavorful deckbuilding system that powers theatrical, puppet-style combat encounters. As Panko, a talented Caracal chef, players must keep villagers and adventurers well fed while ravenous monsters threaten the spirits beyond their home. Strategy and seasoning matter just as much as timing because the only way to defeat these creatures is by keeping bellies full.
The updated demo also expands Palo Pori with new NPCs, improved town map access, expanded language support for both in-game content and feedback, and a host of quality-of-life improvements.
Launching This Spring on Console and PC
Beastro is set to launch this spring on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and via Xbox Game Pass.
