Nacon and Ishtar Games have officially launched Dead in Antares on Steam, marking the third main entry in the long-running “Dead In” survival and management RPG series. Following the franchise’s 10th anniversary celebration last year, this new chapter pushes the formula into an interstellar setting, combining survival mechanics, narrative choice, and tactical combat on an alien world.
A Mission Turned Survival Story
In Dead in Antares, players command a team of ten specialists sent on a desperate mission to secure new resources as Earth’s final hope. When a mysterious wormhole disrupts the expedition and causes a catastrophic crash landing on the planet Antares Prime, the objective shifts immediately from salvation to survival.
Stranded far from home, the crew must stabilize their situation, secure food and materials, and investigate the planet’s secrets. Every decision carries weight, as mismanagement or poor judgment can quickly spiral into disaster.
Deep Management and RPG Systems
The game emphasizes interconnected survival and resource management systems. Players oversee up to twenty workstations and craft more than 130 upgrades while carefully balancing health, morale, and efficiency. Each crew member comes with unique traits, personalities, skills, and affinities, making interpersonal dynamics and team composition critical to long-term success.
Narrative depth is equally important. Branching storylines and difficult moral choices shape the fate of the crew and ultimately determine which of the five possible endings players will unlock. The experience is designed to reward thoughtful planning and calculated risk-taking.
Tactical Combat and Exploration
Combat unfolds in turn-based tactical encounters that showcase each character’s specialized abilities. Battles grow increasingly demanding, particularly at higher difficulty levels, including the punishing “True Captain” mode aimed at seasoned strategists.
Beyond combat, players explore the mysterious and visually striking Antares Prime, encountering two distinct factions with intricate backstories that intertwine with the overarching narrative.
A Decade of the “Dead In” Series
Dead in Antares builds upon the experience Ishtar Games gained from earlier entries such as Dead in Vinland, as well as strategy titles like The Last Spell and Lakeburg Legacies. With its hand-drawn 2D visuals and refined systems, the latest installment aims to perfect the formula the studio has developed over the past decade.
Dead in Antares is available now on Steam with a limited-time 15% launch discount. A Supporter’s Pack is also available separately, featuring the original soundtrack by Antoine Boucherika, an exclusive in-game robot companion, and a character reskin for Amelia.
