The time has come for the first big post-launch update for Nioh 3, with the 1.03.01 patch addressing issues with multiplayer as well as other balance issues, bugs, and glitches.
Few games launch flawlessly, especially when the scope of the title is as big as Nioh 3. While the game has enjoyed positive critic and player reviews since launch, there have been a few bumps plaguing those out exploring the vast world either solo or in multiplayer. The first large-scale patch aims to smooth out these areas and create a more seamless experience.
The patch addresses some particularly important issues currently causing problems in Nioh 3, including a health balance for enemies in the Training Ground Battle Scroll and a problem where the friend search function would cease to work after attempting to create a multiplayer session.

Nioh 3 1.03.01 Patch Fixes & Improvements
As broken down via a social media post shared on the Nioh 3 official account and the game’s website, the 1.03.01 patch is a large-scale update that covers a variety of issues and balance problems that made their way into the launch version of the game.
The update was deployed for both the PlayStation 5 and Steam versions of the game, bringing both versions up to date with the most recent changes.
Major Adjustments to Gameplay
Below are the major adjustments introduced to Nioh 3 in the most recent patch:
- Enemy health greatly increased for the Training Ground Battle Scroll
- The ability to pray to the Shrine during the Training Ground Battle Scroll encounter
- Backup copy save data will automatically generate when saves are loaded (Steam)
Major Bug Fixes
In addition to the adjustments, the following bug fixes were also implemented during the 1.03.01 patch for Nioh 3:
- Fix for loss of valuables obtained during myths under certain conditions. Lost valuables can now be recovered when loading the affected save.
- Partial fix for crashing
- Fix for issue that made it impossible to progress after Investigate tthe Building command during Eternal Rift
- Fix for issue allowing players to get items when it was impossible to continue in Eternal Rift
- Fix for Takasugi Shinsaku getting stuck in the background during The Sweet Sound of Strings mission
- Fix for issue performing Martial Arts Rising Gal with Samurai weapon cestuses
- Fix for Martial Art Dancing Kick being prevented with the Samurai weapon cestuses
- Fix for issue where Martial Art Defensive performance with Samurai weapon cestuses causing Sunrise to be followed be Defensive Drop
- Fixed issue with Arts Proficiency where Martial Art Infinite Retribution with the Switchglave Samurai weapon would enable players to continue unleashing Infinite Retribution without pause
- Partial fix for issue that made using elixirs in battle impossible
- Fix for issue making it impossible to switch between melee weapons while locked on and sheathing a weapon
- Fix for issue making attacks with certain weapons difficult when attacking Yamainu head-on
- Fix for issue preventing attacks from interrupting Minamoto no Yoritomo’s special moves if his Ki is depleted
- Fix for issue where Kajiwara Kagetoki could become stuck during Myth True Samurai of Kamakura
- Fix for issue where it was impossible to progress under certain conditions during the Myths Fated Land and The Demon of the Haunting Caves
- Fixed an issue preventing the player from receiving the Guiding Mirror from Ii Naotora at Hamamatsu Castle, making it impossible to progress
- Fix for issue that made it impossible to deliver Kagatsuchi’s Magatama to the blacksmith
- Fix for issue that prevented special Battle Scrolls, such as Takeda’s Four Heavenly Kings, from unlocking even if the player had fulfilled the unlock conditions
- Fix for issue allowing Bloody Graves and Benevolent Graves to appear in the Battle Scroll Takeda’s Four Heavenly Kings
- Fix for issue where reaching the limit of items in the Item Box during Battle Scrolls would prevent the player from selecting Return in the Shrine menu
- Fix for rematch issue when duel-type Battle Scrolls would result in enemies responding too quickly
- Bug Fix for Mujina respawn if the player opened the Mujina treasure chest, saved at a shrine, and then began playing again using that save data
- Fix for issue where the Mujina behavior did not sync for all players during multiplayer sessions
- Fix for issue that prevented controls from working properly during the Myth Becoming Champion of the East in “1572 CE – Warring States” during multiplayer sessions
- Fix for issue where guests in Expeditions would obtain the same trophies or achievements as the host
- Fix for issue allowing visiting players who joined through friend searches to play through missions they had not already completed
- Fix for issue allowing visiting players who joined by being summoned to play through missions they had not already completed
- Fix for issue preventing players from collecting the Kodama at the well after multiplayer sessions
- Fix for issue causing the play record “Level during first completion of __” to be overwritten by the second playthrough.
- Fix for issue causing the game to crash if the player Deflected an attack by one of the traps on the stage while the fifth set bonus effect Deflect Ki Damage for the set bonus General of Ruin was active
- Fix for issue where the stats column for equipment would no longer appear after performing a Soul Match
- Fix for issue preventing the special effect Nullify Reduced Movement from working properly
- Fix for issue where if the player selected 11, 32, 33, or 43 under Base Hair in Character Creation, they would be able to select 14 under “Hair – Back of Head (Top)” even if the hair was floating above the head
- Made other minor fixes
- Fix for issue where the friend search function would stop working after a certain amount of time had passed when the player was creating a room for a multiplayer session (PlayStation 5)
- Fix for issue preventing parts of stage from appearing (Steam)
- Fix for bug while performing Flux or Frost Moon with Switchglaive that would trigger Martial Arts Retribution, Edge, or Blade after player sets the Change Stance command to a single key under keyboard and mouse (Steam)
It is likely that Nioh 3 will continue to see patches in the coming weeks that will address other issues, as well as continue work on partial fixes that were implemented in the 1.03.01 patch.
