Yes, we’ve got news from a Star Wars Galaxies emulator that isn’t SWGL for you all today. This time we’re highlighting Star Wars Galaxies Restoration III, the mashup CU/NGE variant that had a 1.0 release in 2022, which is preparing to launch its new Shatterpoint major content update for the classsic sandbox.
“Shatterpoint introduces unique content and mechanics, turning the sandbox galaxy into a shared story of escalation, conflict, and consequence. Whether you’re fighting on the front lines, running supplies through danger, manipulating intel in a cantina, or selling your loyalty to the highest bidder, you’re shaping a dynamic, breathing galaxy where you’ll make a permanent mark on the game world.”
At the heart of this update is an adjusted galactic civil war system that’s powered by a point scoring system centered around crackdowns and uprisings as well as intelligence and counter-intelligence missions, supply line gameplay features, and all-new flashpoints that can spawn, all taking place across multiple weeks.
It all builds to the titular shatterpoint event that kicks off when four of the seven planets are under either Imperial or Rebel control, with several types of final battles that can occur and the promise of “lasting scars” left on the galaxy before the cycle resets.
Other additions in Shatterpoint are an endgame prestige system that lets players level up skill trees for activities like crafting and PvP, the introduction of a mercenary faction for neutral players to join in on the PvPing fun, several factional base adjustments with an angle towards making them PvE-focused, and some new PvP battlegrounds at Echo Base and Restuss, on top of fixes and adjustments. Needless to say, there’s quite a lot to read through, or you could just watch the trailer below – then get ready for tomorrow’s launch.
