There’s a lot to wrap your head around in regard to World of Warcraft’s upcoming Midnight expansion, including what’s the deal with its new allied race and Prey system. Fortunately for us, Blizzard posted a couple of informative overviews of both of these features in case you’re a little behind the curve.
The Haranir allied race can be unlocked during the leveling campaign and pledges loyalty to Alliance and horde alike. The troll-elf hybrid race offers a wide range of class choices, including Druid, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior.
But it’s the Prey system that’s the real question mark of this expansion, as player opinions are divided whether this will be an engaging challenge or a gimmicky annoyance. The studio’s guide to the system notes that players can opt in to a variety of challenge levels while activating a special prey who will pop up from time to time during adventures. There are a bunch of special rewards for participating, including unlocking Great Vault slots.
FYI, there’s a one-hour Midnight launch test happening this Friday afternoon, if you want to take an advance peek. And if you’re not hyped enough, check out the new Liadrin “All That is Sacred” animated short, which quite groovy:
