Analysis – BBC Radio Norfolk’s Rob Butler

The Josh Sargent saga appears to be reaching a conclusion, finally.

The USA international is on his way to Canada to sign for MLS side Toronto in a deal which could earn the Canaries over £20m. As always with modern transfer fees, there are add-on criteria’s that need to be filled down the line, but the targets are said to be “achievable”.

Despite his current position as public enemy number one amongst Canary fans following his refusal to play in the FA Cup tie against Walsall, Sargent is the club’s best player.

The blow of losing him will be softened by the emergence of transfer window signing Mohamed Toure who now has five goals in three games, but it remains to be seen if the Australian can permanently fill the Sargent-shaped void.

Top scorer Jovon Makama will miss a large part of the rest of the season with a foot injury so 21-year-old Toure is now the main man with Dane Mathias Kvistgaarden acting as another option.

Sargent will look to pick up his career in the MLS and make a late claim to be part of the World Cup squad, a tournament which will take place partly in the States.

For Norwich supporters it’s a bitter end for a previously much-loved striker they voted for as player of the season in 2025.
