Shillong: In a breaking improvement, 16 labourers had been killed after blast in unlawful Meghalaya coal mine. The incident occurred hear a suspected unlawful coal mine within the Thangsko space of Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district on Thursday, officers mentioned.
The explosion, believed to have been brought on by way of high-intensity dynamite for mining operations, led to the collapse of adjoining mine shafts, trapping staff deep underground and elevating fears of extra casualties.
Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills, Vikash Kumar, confirmed the incident and mentioned police groups, together with catastrophe administration personnel, had been rushed to the spot quickly after the explosion was reported.
“We now have confirmed that the incident occurred this morning. Instant steps have been taken, and help from the State Catastrophe Response Pressure (SDRF) has been sought to hold out rescue operations,” Kumar instructed reporters.
