Jhansi: A 16-year-old girl ended her life on Thursday, a day after she was allegedly molested by a 22-year-old man. As per details, the girl, a student of class IX, was alone at home on Wednesday afternoon while her mother went to attend a marriage and her aunt went to the farms. Her neighbour barged into the house and molested her. The girl’s younger brother, who was playing outside, came in and raised an alarm, after which the accused ran away. Later on Wednesday evening, a case was lodged at Moth police station on the victim’s complaint. On Thursday afternoon, the girl, who reportedly went into depression, consumed a poisonous substance and died. CO Moth Ajay Shrotiya said that at the time the initial complaint was lodged, the girl’s age was not disclosed; therefore, Pocso sections were not included. “Unfortunately, the girl has died by suicide. We have arrested the accused, and further investigations are underway. Based on that, we will include further sections,” he said. tnn
