NMC files police complaint after fake recruitment advt targets job seekers

Nagpur: In a serious case of online fraud targeting unemployed youth, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) lodged a police complaint after a fake recruitment advertisement went viral on social media, falsely claiming 100 contract-based vacancies across its zones. As per the civic body, some miscreants circulated a fabricated advertisement inviting applications for the posts of “Printer Operator and Document Scanner”, claiming that 10 candidates would be recruited in each of the 10 municipal zones. The bogus notification even mentioned eligibility criteria, salary details ranging from Rs15,000 to Rs18,000 per month, and provided two mobile numbers for contact — a clear red flag, officials said.

The administration moved swiftly after the fraud came to light, warning citizens not to fall prey to such deceptive tactics. Civic officials clarified that the municipal corporation does not conduct recruitment through social media platforms or private mobile numbers. All official recruitment notifications are published strictly on the corporation’s authorised website.Terming the act a deliberate attempt to exploit job seekers, the civic body emphasised that its recruitment process is transparent and system-driven. Any legitimate vacancy is advertised only through official channels, and candidates are never asked to contact individuals directly over the phone for job appointments.Following preliminary verification, officiating assistant commissioner of the general administration department Rajkumar Meshram filed a formal complaint at the Sadar police station, seeking immediate legal action against those responsible. The complaint demands strict action against the perpetrators for attempting to defraud unemployed youth under the guise of municipal recruitment. The incident once again exposed how fraudsters are exploiting the desperation of job seekers by mimicking govt hiring formats. Officials urged aspirants to exercise caution and verify every recruitment-related claim through the official NMC website before sharing personal information or contacting unknown numbers. With unemployment concerns already running high, the administration made it clear: any recruitment advertisement circulating outside official platforms is fake, and strict legal consequences will follow for those attempting to misuse the civic body’s name for financial or personal gain.
