Imphal, Feb 4: The Ministry of Residence Affairs on Wednesday issued a notification revoking President’s Rule in Manipur with rapid impact.
The event comes simply hours earlier than the swearing-in ceremony of the brand new Manipur authorities scheduled for this night. MLAs of the BJP-led Nationwide Democratic Alliance (NDA) are set to formally take oath beneath the management of Chief Minister-designate Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
Khemchand Singh belongs to the Meitei group. The 2 Deputy Chief Minister-designates — Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho — signify the Kuki and Naga tribes respectively, reflecting a broad-based political outreach within the new dispensation.
Seven-time MLA from Bishnupur district, Govindas Konthoujam, mentioned he has been assigned the Residence portfolio. “I’m dedicated to serving Manipur with self-discipline, restraint, and dedication to stability and public order,” he mentioned.
In accordance with a notification printed within the Gazette of India (Extraordinary), President Droupadi Murmu has withdrawn the Proclamation issued beneath Article 356(2) of the Structure in relation to Manipur.
The order, dated February 4, 2026, revokes the sooner Proclamation issued on February 13, 2025, which had positioned the state beneath President’s Rule.
“In train of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 356 of the Structure, I… hereby revoke the Proclamation issued… in relation to the State of Manipur with impact from the 4th day of February, 2026,” the notification said.
