Mysore/Mysuru: Alleging large-scale irregularities in land use close to Chamundi Hill, Krishnaraja MLA T. S. Srivatsa has charged that the Mysuru Growth Authority (MDA) illegally transformed 47 acres of land, valued at about Rs. 500 crore, from a no-development and particular agricultural zone to a residential zone.

Talking at a press convention close to the encroached lake in Ok.C. Structure yesterday, he mentioned the proposed conversion violates current legal guidelines and threatens the greenery surrounding Chamundi Hill.

Citing the Complete Growth Plan (CDP)-2031 accepted by the State Authorities in 2018, Srivatsa famous that no environmentally dangerous improvement is permitted inside a 100-metre radius of Chamundi Hill, which is formally categorised as a no-development and particular agricultural zone. He alleged that these authorized safeguards have been ignored.

“As a MUDA member, I attended the assembly on Nov. 7, 2024, the place landowners, together with Rebi, Peter, Rani Peter and others, sought conversion of about 50 acres from particular agricultural to residential use. The request was rejected as a consequence of zoning restrictions and a web site inspection was ordered. Nevertheless, after MUDA was rebranded as MDA, approval was granted within the Aug. 8, 2025, assembly to transform the land and ahead the proposal to the Authorities,” he mentioned, including that the assembly was chaired by Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, who additionally heads the MDA.

    Will solely profit the wealthy

Calling the justification that homes can be handed over to the poor “laughable,” he mentioned the MDA assembly accepted the argument and gave its approval. “As soon as the land is transformed and a brand new structure is developed, will the homeowners actually present websites to the poor at reasonably priced charges? Are they honestly that beneficiant?” he requested sarcastically.

Pointing to prevailing property costs, he famous that every web site in Ok.C. Structure is valued at over Rs. 1 crore. “In such a state of affairs, will the websites actually be handed over to the poor?” he requested, expressing disbelief.

    Bowing to strain

Srivatsa additional alleged that G.M. Madhu, a accomplice of Mysuru Layo & Infra LLP, had pressured MDA Commissioner Ok.R. Rakshit to clear the conversion.

“I had suggested Rakshit to not act illegally or yield to influential strain and he had agreed. However he succumbed to strain from the land mafia and accepted the conversion,” the MLA claimed.

Demanding cancellation of the conversion order, Srivatsa urged the Authorities to not bow to the land mafia and  referred to as for defense of Chamundi Hill, which holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for Mysuru.

    New authority,  outdated corruption!

The State Authorities might have modified the Mysuru City Growth Authority (MUDA) to Mysuru Growth Authority (MDA) with the intention of eliminating corruption. Nevertheless, corruption has not been eradicated, and seems to have carried over together with the transition, based on Krishnaraja MLA T. S. Srivatsa.

The large corruption scandal in MUDA, involving hundreds of crores of rupees, had drawn consideration not solely in Karnataka however throughout the nation. On this backdrop, the State Authorities cancelled legislators’ membership in MDA as a part of reform measures. Regardless of this, the MLA expressed suspicion that unlawful actions proceed even beneath MDA.

“Earlier, when MUDA existed, legislators have been held accountable for corruption. Now, with no legislators in MDA, the query is, who’s accountable for the irregularities going down at the moment?” he requested.
