Ranchi: Residents of ward numbers 48 and 49 in Doranda and Hinoo areas under the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) have several issues that have plagued their localities for a long time. According to them, relentless traffic congestion and rising noise levels turned their daily life into a struggle, with underdeveloped inner lanes, water shortage and security concerns compounding their problems. With Ward 49 housing 19,129 residents and Ward 48 being home to 15,626 people, the two areas witnessed rapid commercial growth along major stretches such as Saket Nagar Road, Airport Road and Hinoo Chowk in Ward 49, and Doranda Main Road, Rahmat Colony Masjid Road and Kusai Chowk in Ward 48. Locals said vehicular pressure in these corridors spilt into residential lanes, many of which remained narrow and poorly maintained.“From morning till late evening, the Airport Road and the Hinoo Chowk remain jam-packed. Hearing the ear-shattering honking of vehicles continuously has become part of our routine. But the bigger issue is that when traffic is diverted into the inner lanes, the roads are broken and now, they are ill-equipped to handle such a vehicle load,” said Neha Sinha, a resident of Saket Nagar Road.In Rahmat Colony, residents pointed to a persistent water crisis. “Supply is irregular, especially in summer. We depend on tankers several times a week. Despite being in a prime locality, basic services are inconsistent,” said Mohammed Arif of Masjid Road.“The Doranda Main Road has become extremely risky, especially during college hours. With students from Doranda College crossing amid speeding vehicles and constant jams, even a short walk feels unsafe. There are no proper pedestrian crossings or traffic personnel during peak hours,” said Deepak Das, a street vendor on the Doranda Main Road.Residents said that unless coordinated measures, including regulated traffic flow, designated parking areas, pedestrian safety steps near educational institutes, improved inner-lane infrastructure and assured water supply, were implemented, the Doranda–Hinoo belt would continue to struggle under unplanned urban pressure despite being one of the city’s busiest corridors.
