Gurgaon: With Class 10 and 12 examinations of the Haryana Board of School Education set to begin on Feb 25, the education department has announced strict monitoring measures and warned of disciplinary action against teachers who fail to report for assigned duties.Officials said the measures follow instances last year when around 22 teachers were absent during board examinations despite repeated notices. District education offices have been directed to expedite disciplinary proceedings against those ignoring official instructions to ensure adherence to the protocols.Officials said surveillance at examination centres across the district will be strengthened through flying squads and regular inspections. The administration stressed that staff attendance is mandatory, as teachers play a critical role in maintaining discipline, preventing unfair practices and ensuring the smooth conduct of exams.However, the stricter stance also triggered concerns among teachers, many of whom raised issues, including low honorarium and delays in payment for examination duties. Some educators expressed anxiety over the heightened scrutiny during malpractice inquiries in previous years.Despite these concerns, district education officer Indu Bokan said the department’s priority is to ensure fair, transparent and well-organised examinations. She said instructions had been communicated in advance and that non-compliance would invite departmental action.Teachers on exam duty are responsible for supervising examination halls, verifying students’ identities, distributing question papers and answer sheets, monitoring conduct during tests, and ensuring the secure submission of answer sheets. Officials said these duties are critical to maintaining the integrity of the board examinations, which involve thousands of students across the district.
