Coventry City midfielder Frank Onyeka has explained what helped his team secure a 2-0 away win over West Bromwich Albion in the EFL Championship on Saturday.
The Super Eagles midfielder produced an impressive performance as Coventry ended their long wait for an away victory. Goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni sealed all three points at The Hawthorns. Onyeka was later named Man of the Match for his display.
Speaking after the game, Onyeka said he was happy with the result and praised the team’s effort.
“It’s really nice. We just keep going. It’s a great win away from home. It’s difficult, but it’s all about winning. I’m happy we got the win today and in the last game,” he said.
Onyeka added that Coventry’s defensive organisation was key to their success.
“We stayed in a middle block and didn’t give them anything. That helped us, especially in the second half,” he explained.
Coventry took the lead inside five minutes when Mason-Clark ran through and lobbed the goalkeeper after Onyeka helped win the ball in midfield. Rudoni doubled the lead in the 32nd minute with a powerful long-range shot into the top corner.
West Brom pushed forward in the second half and made several attacking changes, but Coventry’s defence stayed strong and kept a clean sheet. Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth had little to do as the visitors saw out the match comfortably.
Onyeka’s energy and physical presence helped break up West Brom’s attacks and keep Coventry organised. Under manager Frank Lampard, Coventry have now recorded back-to-back league wins and boosted their promotion hopes.
