The Storm have poached one of the game’s most promising young administrators from the Sharks – Phil Gould’s son.

Jack Gould, named Cronulla’s Club Person of the Year in October, has been given the key role of overseeing the Storm’s transition into an NRLW powerhouse.

The Victorian club has yet to play in the NRLW, and Gould has the huge task of developing the Storm’s women’s program.

Gould has done a great job developing the Sharks’ women’s program in recent years – and has carved out a fine reputation away from his illustrious dad at Canterbury.

He will start the job in Melbourne by overseeing the club’s first-ever female teams in the junior Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale Cups this season.

Once they are established, the Storm will push full steam for an NRLW license, with Gould at the forefront.

Gould had five years at the Sharks as Female Pathways Coordinator and was instrumental in the club’s successful entry into the NRLW in 2023.

“I’m really excited to be joining Storm and helping shape the development of our female pathways from the ground up,” Gould said after his appointment.

Dragons official red-faced after mocking ‘reserve grade’ side

There’s one very red-faced official at the Dragons in the wake of Saturday night’s shock loss to a third-string Souths outfit in the Charity Shield.

In the lead-up to the game, the official complained to a mate at Souths that the Rabbitohs were making a mockery of the game by resting their entire top squad and playing a ‘bits and pieces’ team in what is always the biggest trial of the pre-season.

It’s history that the unheralded Bunnies scored a shock win over the full-strength Dragons – and the official has had very little to say since.

Bears keep heat on Leeds star

Polish-born England Test prop Mikolaj Oledzki has denied speculation that he is on the radar of Perth – but I’m hearing that has only increased the Bears’ interest in the Leeds star.

The 27-year-old Oledzki told English reporters, “I’ll pour a bit of cold water over it because I’m happy at Leeds and excited for the season ahead”.

But with the Bears struggling to sign established NRL players for their maiden season, they are looking at Super League – and Oledzki is still high on their list.

Oledzki is contracted to Leeds until the end of 2028 – but as we have seen time and again, contracts aren’t worth the paper they are written on in the NRL.

Roosters sign teen duo on long-term deals

The Roosters continue to build their depth, signing two boom 17-year-olds from the Central Coast.

Halfback Cooper Wrankmore and goal-kicking centre Ethan Lee have both agreed to three-year deals with the Roosters.

The pair are members of the Central Coast Sports College and are in the Sydney Roosters Academy on the coast.

Both have speed to burn and have also represented NSW in touch football and Oztag with distinction at junior level.
