    New Delhi: Greater than 6.83 crore people in tribal-dominated areas throughout the nation have been screened for sickle cell anaemia until February 3, with almost 2.38 lakh amongst them discovered to be contaminated with the illness, whereas over 19.32 lakh have been recognized as carriers, Minister of State for Well being Anupriya Patel instructed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

A complete of two,37,981 people have been recognized as diseased and 19,32,500 as carriers of Sickle Cell Illness,” Patel stated.

    The Union well being ministry has devised the fee norms for institution of Centres of Excellence on Sickle Cell Illness funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) and 17 such establishments in 15 states have been authorised by MoTA, she acknowledged.
