NEW DELHI: In just 40 days, nearly 2,000 mobile phones were recovered, most of which have already been returned to their rightful owners. Police officials said the phones were recovered by teams from the Outer North district and were estimated to be worth around Rs 4 crore. The phones were recovered from multiple states, including Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and others. “We received reports of both lost and stolen phones, and all of them were tracked through the CEIR portal,” a police officer said. An event was held at Kingsway Camp to facilitate the formal return of the recovered phones, with Commissioner of Police Satish Golcha as the chief guest. The operation, named Mission Reconnect, was conducted under the overall supervision of Special CP Ravindra Yadav. Joint CP Vijay Singh described Mission Reconnect as more than just a recovery drive, calling it a people-centric initiative that symbolises the journey of every lost phone back to its rightful owner. DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami said during the event that nukkad natak performances by dedicated teams on themes such as cyber awareness, drug abuse prevention, senior citizen care and Mission Reconnect effectively conveyed important social messages. “The performances sensitised the public about cyber fraud, the dangers of substance abuse, and the relentless efforts of Delhi Police in tracing and recovering lost property,” he said.
